Hi all,
Does anyone here know much about Mahara, or had any experience using or implementing it? http://www.mahara.org/
Thanks,
Kirstie

Hi Kirstie
I know the UsPaCe project has, although I'm not sure exactly what. I've just left a comment for Neil Witt (on this site) asking him if he could help out here.
Cheers

Thanks Mark. One of our teachers mentioned it. I had a look online and it isn't supported on Windows servers, which may be an issue for some of our partners. Any information on development implications would be useful also.

We have set up Mahara and Elgg, and there will be a comparison document written up soon on the UsPaCe site (I'm hoping to get this done in the next couple of weeks). We've gone down the Elgg route for a number of reasons which will be explanined in the comparison document, but Mahara is an interesting solution.

If anyone is having issues installing it I can recommend a commercial provider that we have links with that have experience of installing Mahara, Elgg and other products.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the info. Just having a look at UsPaCe, it sounds very interesting. Some of our LLN ePortfolio trials are for FD students, and we're aiming very much at workplace learners. I'd be interseted in having a chat with you about the project at some point.

No problem, will you be at the Keele event in July?

Sorry, I'm not aware of it, which event is this?

Hi Kirstie,
As Mark mentioned we considered using it as a part of our UsPaCe project. It was a bit of a fiddle to get setup to be quite honest. However it did seem to be quite slick initially but then a few bugs began to materialise. In the end we went for ELGG as it fitted what we needed for the project more closely.

Are there any specific aspects of implementing it you want to know about or need help with?

Hi Rob,

That's useful to know. I'm involved in the Notts & Derbys LLN, running ePortfolio pilots, and it was really in a response to a question.
Thanks,
Kirstie
