To be honest, in our experience they have to personalise their learning in order to fit it around their work and home time constraints. We are providing on-line learning opportunities to enable them to do this and, for the most part, the learners are studying in their 'spare' time. Only one learner in our present cohort has time provided formally by the employer.
The other part of personalisation is in the contextualisation of learning activities and the modules we deliver have been designed to encourage that.

Do you think it may depend upon the level of support they get? (both at work and from the institution)

Hi All, I have found that students who are employed are much more enthsiastic in using their workplace as the source of their study in WBL than those who are not employed. For those who are unemployed, the difficulty is in searching out information on their chosen subject, and setting themselves up in a new environment, possibly hostile, where lines of contact may be difficult to follow. Of course, some journalists relish this sort scenario, as they may perceive themselves to be collecting information for the public judgment process, fighting the cause , as it were. Our students have metallurgy as their background, and will enter into engineering environments, so one can guess that the more outgoing and generous the personality, may be more successful in the short term. It can be said also, that there may be a possibility of employement or at the least, a nice CV reference for the placed student who is deemed to be successful by the temporary employer. The latter can be seen as an additional stress for the placed student
