I have been invited by Bruce Stafford to join this group so hello everyone!

Here at Bradford College we are about to embark on an eportfolio hunt! We have collated a list of some that have come to our attention and will hopefully find a way of assessing them.

This is our list so far.

  • ELGG
  • MyStuff
  • Mahara
  • MultiPort
  • Ecordia
  • Soon to be launched Moodle's eportfolio tool

Anyone use any of these?

I had a play with MyStuff, but found it to be tied in to the OU system too closely to be of real use. A shame as there was real potential and usability there. Revisited ELGG and Mahara, but have decided to go with PebblePad and having good results with it in a small pilot group. Part of the reason for using PebblePad is Institute for Learning's decision to use it, but in the main because of ease of use. My techno-phobics picked things up very quickly.

We're using Elgg and have evaluated Mahara (which I hope to write up soon alongside a comparison of our Tomoye Ecco installation). We've also looked at the excellent Hull College Ellg Placement plug-in and are hoping to adapt it later in the project

At Hull College we have been involved with ELGG for some time via project funded by JISC http://helpp.hull-college.ac.uk/ We limited the use to initially one Foundation Degree then introduced it to other HE areas. We sought to use it as a three way communication tool between students tutor and work placement mentor; a proto -e-Portfolio and an ILP. We have somewhat gingerly made it available to the whole College now but at present there is very limited take up

Use is growing-- we have put a lot of input into keeping content fresh. Some initial support is needed, as it isn't always obvious where to start (especially if online communities is a new concept). There has been enthusiasm in the various features, sharing project space/files, team input etc. and also some frustration about navigation in particular. There are also new concepts (RSS/widgets/blogs) involved which require support.
Who will you be using ePortfolios with? and how will you be assessing them?

The University of Nottingham is using ELGG. It's in a pilot year, and is being rolled out to staff initially. It's hosted in house, and has been customised a bit.
